We all love to observe beauty. It’s a natural human instinct that we should foster to some degree. One of the challenges with beauty is that, when it comes to the human form, what we see one day may not be what we see the next. Sometimes, this is due to changes that happen as we age. However, there is also the matter of that little saying: “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” If what you see in the mirror does not reflect what society tells you is beautiful (Hello, Giselle!), then you may find yourself feeling less confident than you would like.
As your Williamsburg cosmetic plastic surgeon, doesn’t Dr. Guarnieri want you to want to change your appearance? Well, maybe. Our role as your aesthetic medicine team is to help you achieve your personal goals that relate to your appearance. Does that mean we want you to follow current trends without question? No. If you even tried to do that, you might drive yourself crazy. Let’s see how the ideal female form has changed over the years to understand why you may never attain it.
Appearance Trends
- Are you overly curvy? Like Jessica Rabbit curvy? Not many women are! This is why those that lived in the early 1900s stuffed their bodies into corsets that barely let them breathe – all in hopes of looking like The Gibson Girl. Who was this woman? She didn’t exist. She was an illustration drawn up by Charles Gibson to display the fashion of the time perfectly.
- Are you curvy at all? Then your body type would not have been deemed “beautiful” during the 60s and 70s, during which time Twiggy and other ultra-thin models were the norms before Farrah Fawcett and her blown out waves and subtle curves were on every magazine cover.
- Do your curves extend all the way to your backside? Then 2010 marked the dawn of your era! Today, it is the booty that rules, a la J.Lo and Beyonce.
Wherever you land on the scale of body types, the truth is, you are beautiful. Trends are only trends. They do not indicate what true beauty looks like because real beauty is every woman, every shape.
We do not strive to make you fit into any body type. What we do at Williamsburg Plastic Surgery is help you bring out your inner self. We are happy to consult with you about your goals. Call 757-345-2275.
