What is Restylane?
Restylane injectable gel is an FDA approved, cosmetic “filler”. Restylane is comprised of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance found in the body. Hyaluronic acid, HA, provides the skin with volume and elasticity. However, as you age, HA levels naturally decrease, resulting in loose skin and wrinkling. When Dr. Johnstuart Guarnieri, of Williamsburg Plastic Surgery, injects Restylane it plumps the skin beneath lines and wrinkles. As a result wrinkles are smoother and less noticeable.
Restylane Treatment Areas
Restylane is most commonly injected into:
- Glabellar lines between the eyebrows
- Nasolabial folds from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth
- The lips
How Does Restylane Injectable Gel Work?
After injection, Restylane gel plumps up glabellar lines and nasolabial folds, making skin appear younger and look smoother. When used for lip enhancement, it makes the lips fuller and gives them more definition.
Advantages Of Restylane Treatments
One significant advantage of Restylane injectable gel is that it contains nothing of animal origin. As a result, it does not require a potential user to undergo allergy testing. This benefit allows patients to receive treatment quicker as testing results can often take weeks. In addition, Restylane injections can take less than half an hour to complete and require little-to-no downtime for the patient.
