There is a natural inclination to think about certain skin concerns during certain times of the year. Now, when the weather is typically cool enough to send us seeking cover in the form of steaming showers and heated air, we may look for ways to keep the skin healthy and moisturized. During the warm weather, months is when we look at our skin more closely. It is then when we notice how we really would like our skin to look.
Often, the way we want our skin to look is smooth. To achieve this, we have been taught to rely on shaving and plucking and waxing and other temporary grooming techniques. More recently, adults realize that laser hair removal is a more permanent solution to the problem of unwanted hair.
A Look at Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is superior to shaving for one simple reason: you don’t have to shave anymore! Treatment does require several office visits to fully disable functioning hair follicles. During each, specific wavelengths of light pulse toward the skin. Energy from these pulses of light enter the hair follicles where they affect the pigment in hair. The transfer of light to heat within strands of hair causes immediate destruction of hair. It also partially incapacitates the follicles, so they begin to lose their ability to produce new hair.
How Winter Weather Maximizes Laser Hair Removal Treatment
Laser hair removal is not a painful treatment. It does have side-effects, though. One of the important details of laser hair removal is that skin is more susceptible to sunburn and other UV damage for a short time. This means patients should stay out of the sun, an easy prospect on the cold days of Winter.
There are also aspects of laser hair removal that make treatment more or less effective. Mainly, it is the contrast between hair and skin color that matters. The darker the hair is compared to the tone of the skin, the better. Our skin is naturally at least a little darker in Summer than in Winter. Therefore, scheduling laser hair removal now is a great way to get the best possible results.
