We can’t help but be drawn to the outdoors when the sunshine invites us to warm ourselves. For many of us, there was a time when the basking went a little too far. The unfortunate aspect of sun damage is that it occurs long before we are aware of the dangers of UV exposure. Most adults did not have the good fortune of knowing the value of sunscreen when we were youngsters. As a result, we are now a group of thirty, forty, fifty, and sixty-year-olds marked by the sun. Yep, sun spots.
Sun spots have been called many names over the years. Our grandparents may have called them “liver spots.” Our parents may have referred to them as “age spots.” By any name, the mottled skin on the face, chest, arms, and hands are disruptive to a youthful aesthetic. Fortunately, there are ways to manage this concern.
- Clinical-grade skin care products. There are several skin care lines formulated with high-quality ingredients to smooth and brighten the skin. Because skin care is the basis of healthy skin, every person who wants to reduce concerns such as sun spots is encouraged to look beyond the department store in their search for cleansers, moisturizers, and serums. Lines from SkinMedica, Obagi, and other professionally formulated products are highly recommended.
- Chemical peels such as the VI Peel or our gentle glycolic peel liven up the skin by removing the uppermost layer of damaged cells in a mild process. The weakest peels can be obtained on a monthly basis as a form of continual support for a good skin care regimen.
- Laser skin resurfacing. This deeper resurfacing treatment is appropriate for more severe sun damage and aging, as well as for the proactive management of glowing skin. We use fractional laser technology that achieves enhanced results without much downtime. The skin may look red for several days and will need protection from the sun to obtain optimal results.
